Adobe Proves it - "Eclipse and Mac - A Natural Combination"

It's hard to argue with Apple Developer Connection when they said "Eclipse and Mac are a natural combination". 20,000+ downloads a month for Eclipse on MacOS gives that some creed as well. Moreover, there's 1248 people already signed to the Google Group dedicated to developing on the Mac with Eclipse.

As noted in Macworld, Adobe has just released trial version of FlexBuilder 2 for the Mac, built on Eclipse, and my contacts at Adobe Max this week said it looks really sweet (aside from an apparently fuzzy start icon, but I digress). I can't think of of a more glowing endorsement for "Eclipse on the Mac" than Adobe using it for a very important project like Flex Builder 2. Adobe released FlexBuilder 2 for Windows a short while back - also on Eclipse. Chalk one up for large scale cross platform deployment in action.

Kudos to Adobe.

While I agree that Eclipse is a good development platform, I still feel a bit left behind as a developer on my Mac with the lack of support from the TPTP profiler. Consequently, the combination of Eclipse and Mac seems to become not-so-natural for certain common-development tasks which are supported naturally on other platforms.

Does this mean that Eclipse and Linux are an "Unnatural Combination?" Are Eclipse and Windows just the testing ground for Eclipse and Mac?

"Eclipse works on Mac too" is a better headline, but that's not snazzy enough I guess.

@lubimir - Definitely the TPTP project could use some help with Hyades and the Mac. It appears relatively trivial to do, we just need someone interested enough to help. Details on how to help are here: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=68111

@Lukas - I was just echoing the Apple Developer Words. There is a much larger adoption of Eclipse on Linux and Mac and when major apps are released on it, I'll be sure to blog about that too. ;)

Donald - I was mocking the marketeers that came up with the headline, not you.

Then again, you re-posted it. ;)
